Team Lead Backend Developer Position: Team Lead – Backend Developer Experience: 7–10+ Years Employment Type: Full-Time Location: On-Site Department: Technology / Engineering Reporting To: Engineering Manager / CTO About the Role We are looking for an experienced and technically strong Team Lead – Backend Developer to lead our backend development team and take ownership of designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and high-performance backend systems. The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience in Node.js, Express.js, MongoDB, REST APIs, microservices, and cloud technologies, along with proven experience in team leadership, code reviews, architecture, and project delivery. Key Responsibilities • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of backend developers. • Design and develop scalable, secure, and high-performance backend applications. • Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices using Node.js and Express.js. • Design efficient database structures, schemas, queries, and indexing strategies using MongoDB. • Review code and ensure adherence to coding standards, best practices, security guidelines, and development processes. • Take ownership of backend architecture, technical decisions, and system design. • Collaborate with frontend developers, QA engineers, DevOps, product managers, and other stakeholders. • Break down business requirements into technical tasks and assign them effectively to team members. • Monitor project progress, identify technical risks, and ensure timely delivery. • Implement authentication and authorization mechanisms such as JWT, OAuth, and RBAC. • Optimize application performance, scalability, reliability, and database efficiency. • Work with caching technologies such as Redis where required. • Design and implement integrations with third-party APIs and external services. • Participate in deployment, troubleshooting, production support, and incident resolution. • Work with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform. • Implement and maintain logging, monitoring, error handling, and security practices. • Conduct technical discussions, interviews, and evaluations for backend development candidates. • Stay updated with emerging backend technologies, frameworks, architecture patterns, and industry best practices. Required Skills • 6–10+ years of experience in backend development. • Strong hands-on experience with Node.js and Express.js. • Excellent knowledge of JavaScript and/or TypeScript. • Strong experience with MongoDB and database design. • Strong understanding of REST APIs, API design, and microservices architecture. • Experience with JWT, OAuth, RBAC, and backend security. • Experience with Redis or other caching technologies. • Good understanding of Git and version control systems. • Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP. • Strong knowledge of application performance optimization and scalability. • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes. • Understanding of Docker and containerization is preferred. • Good understanding of Agile/Scrum development methodologies. • Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Leadership & Management Skills • Proven experience leading and mentoring backend developers. • Ability to conduct effective code reviews and technical discussions. • Strong task planning, delegation, and project management skills. • Ability to make sound technical decisions and take ownership of deliverables. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to coordinate effectively with cross-functional teams. • Experience in handling multiple projects and priorities. Education • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. • Equivalent practical experience may also be considered. Preferred Qualifications • Experience working in a product-based or SaaS company. • Experience designing high-traffic and distributed systems. • Knowledge of message queues such as RabbitMQ or Kafka. • Familiarity with Kubernetes and advanced Docker deployment. • Experience with automated testing and backend testing frameworks. • Understanding of system design and software architecture. • Experience in mentoring junior and mid-level developers.
