You should be able to look at a transaction flow and immediately understand the corresponding debit and credit entries, ledger impact, and effect on the balance sheet.This is particularly important for our platform because we handle school fee collection, involving real money movement, reconciliation, financial reporting, compliance, and audit requirements. Getting the underlying accounting model right is critical and difficult to fix later.You will work closely with finance teams, accountants, auditors, engineering, design, operations, and school administrators to build reliable, scalable, and compliant financial products. Tally & Accounting Integrations • Core Accounting • Own the product strategy and roadmap for the core accounting platform. • Design and evolve the Chart of Accounts and ledger structure that serves as the foundation for all financial workflows. • Build and maintain accounting workflows based on sound double-entry bookkeeping principles. • Own generation and presentation of: • Balance Sheet • Profit & Loss statements • Trial Balance • General Ledger • Enable drill-down from financial reports to individual transactions and journal entries. • Support accounting periods, period locking, reopening controls, and financial year-end processes. • Build workflows for income and expense tracking, categorisation, cost centres, and budget-versus-actual analysis. • Own journal entries, adjustments, accruals, provisions, reversals, and year-end closing workflows. • Ensure every financial transaction has a clear, traceable, and auditable accounting impact. • Own Accounts Receivable (AR) workflows including invoicing, fee schedules, dues tracking, and ageing. • Build flexible fee and receivables workflows suitable for schools and educational institutions. • Support part payments, outstanding balances, reminders, payment adjustments, and collection tracking. • Design workflows for credit notes, refunds, write-offs, waivers, and other adjustments. • Ensure payments are correctly reflected across customer accounts, receivables, and the general ledger. • Build finance-friendly views for tracking collections, outstanding dues, and ageing. • Work closely with payment teams to ensure accurate accounting of online and offline collections. • Own Accounts Payable (AP) workflows, including vendor management, bills, approvals, and payment scheduling. • Build vendor master and supplier management capabilities. • Design configurable approval workflows for bills and payments. • Support payment runs, payment scheduling, and payment status tracking. • Ensure vendor payments are correctly reflected in accounting and financial reporting. • Support credit notes, adjustments, advances, and vendor reconciliations. • Own product experiences for reconciliation between: • Bank transactions • Payment gateway transactions • School fee collections • Internal ledger entries • Build automated and manual transaction-matching workflows. • Handle payment gateway settlements, fees, refunds, chargebacks, and settlement differences. • Design workflows for identifying and resolving unmatched or partially matched transactions. • Ensure reconciliation processes provide clear visibility into exceptions and outstanding items. • Work with engineering and finance teams to build reliable financial controls around money movement. • Build product capabilities supporting Indian financial and tax compliance. • Ensure appropriate handling of GST, including tax rates, HSN/SAC classification, and returns-ready reporting. • Support TDS deduction, tracking, and reporting wherever applicable. • Understand Indian financial-year conventions and their impact on accounting workflows and reporting. • Build comprehensive audit trails for financial transactions and changes. • Define requirements around immutability, permissions, approvals, and segregation of duties. • Work closely with finance teams and auditors to ensure the product meets audit and compliance expectations. • Build financial reports that finance teams actually use in their day-to-day operations. • Ensure reports follow familiar accounting structures and terminology. • Support configurable reporting, filters, drill-downs, and exports. • Enable reconciliation between operational transactions and financial reports. • Build reporting suitable for school management, finance teams, accountants, and auditors. • Support data export and import workflows with external accounting systems. • Own integrations with Tally and other accounting packages commonly used by Indian schools and businesses. • Design reliable import/export workflows for accounting data. • Support migration and coexistence scenarios where customers continue using external accounting software alongside our platform. • Understand differences between our accounting model and external systems and ensure data maps correctly. • Build workflows that minimise duplicate data entry and reconciliation effort. What We're Looking For Must Have • 4-8 years of experience in Product Management, with at least 3 years working on finance, accounting, fintech, ERP, or financial SaaS products. • Demonstrated experience building and shipping accounting or finance software for customers. • Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and accounting principles. • Ability to translate business transactions into corresponding debit/credit entries and ledger impacts. • Experience shipping one or more of: • Accounts Receivable • Accounts Payable • General Ledger • Accounting Ledger • Invoicing • Reconciliation • Financial Reporting • Strong understanding of accounting workflows and financial controls. • Familiarity with Indian GST, TDS, and financial-year conventions. • Experience working directly with finance teams, accountants, auditors, or controllers. • Ability to understand how finance users think differently from operational or general business users. • Strong product discovery, prioritisation, analytical, and stakeholder-management skills. Nice to Have • CA, CA Inter, CMA, or Commerce background alongside product management experience. • Experience with payment gateways, settlements, refunds, chargebacks, and reconciliation. • Experience building products for school fee collection or education finance. • Experience with Tally integration, migration, or coexistence workflows. • Experience with ERP, accounting, billing, or financial management platforms. • Exposure to audit, statutory compliance, or financial-control requirements. • Experience building products for Indian SMBs, schools, or other organisations with complex accounting requirements. Educational Qualification • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline. • CA, CA Inter, CMA, M.Com, B.Com, or a similar accounting/finance qualification is highly preferred. • A Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Management, Business Administration, or a related field is an advantage. • Candidates with strong, relevant experience in accounting/finance product management may be considered irrespective of their specific academic specialisation.
