The role will be accountable for safe and timely execution, erection, quality, interface management, contractor performance, pre-commissioning and commissioning readiness of mechanical systems, while ensuring adherence to approved engineering specifications, project schedules and cost objectives. 1. Mechanical Project Execution • Lead complete execution of mechanical works from engineering interface and site mobilisation through erection, testing and commissioning handover. • Drive execution of major packages covering: • Boiler and auxiliaries • Steam Turbine-Generator and auxiliaries • BOP mechanical systems • Coal Handling Plant (CHP) and Ash Handling Plant (AHP) • CW/ACW systems and cooling-water packages • Pumps, compressors and associated rotating equipment • Fuel oil and utility systems • Piping, valves, tanks and pressure systems • Fire-water and other mechanical utility packages • Develop package-wise execution strategies and ensure field activities meet project milestones. 2. BTG / Boiler / Turbine Execution • Provide technical and execution leadership for erection and commissioning readiness of boiler, turbine-generator and associated auxiliaries. • Review critical erection sequences, equipment alignment, clearances, piping interfaces and system readiness. • Coordinate closely with OEMs/EPC contractors for resolution of technical and site constraints. 3. BOP & Package Management • Oversee Balance of Plant mechanical packages and integration with BTG, Electrical and C&I systems. • Monitor package progress against Level-2/Level-3 schedules and identify potential delays. • Drive recovery plans for critical and delayed packages. 4. Engineering & Constructability • Review mechanical drawings, specifications, layouts, P&IDs, equipment data sheets and vendor engineering deliverables from an execution perspective. • Lead constructability reviews before field execution. • Resolve engineering-site interface issues and ensure timely closure of technical queries. • Manage interfaces between Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, C&I and Commissioning teams. 5. Planning & Project Controls • Establish mechanical execution priorities aligned with the overall project master schedule. • Monitor erection quantities, manpower deployment, equipment availability and site productivity. • Conduct regular package-wise progress reviews with contractors and internal teams. • Identify schedule risks early and implement mitigation/recovery plans. 6. Contractor & Vendor Management • Lead mechanical contractors, OEM representatives and package vendors at site. • Review contractor mobilisation, manpower, tools, tackles, cranes and construction equipment. • Monitor productivity and adherence to contractual milestones. • Resolve contractor, vendor and site-interface bottlenecks. 7. Quality Management • Ensure execution in accordance with approved drawings, technical specifications, ITPs and applicable engineering standards. • Drive inspection and quality control of erection, welding, NDT, alignment and piping activities. • Ensure systematic closure of NCRs, punch points and quality observations before handover. 8. EHS Leadership • Demonstrate strong site leadership on safety across all mechanical erection activities. • Ensure high-risk activities such as heavy lifting, work at height, confined-space work, hot work, pressure testing and rotating-equipment activities are executed under approved safety controls. • Partner with the EHS team to strengthen contractor safety performance. 9. Pre-commissioning & Commissioning Readiness • Ensure mechanical systems are progressively completed and handed over for commissioning. • Drive system-wise mechanical completion, punch-point closure and documentation readiness. • Coordinate with commissioning teams for flushing, hydro-testing, lubrication, equipment trials and system commissioning. • Ensure smooth transition from construction to commissioning and ultimately operations. 10. Leadership & Stakeholder Management • Lead Mechanical package heads/managers, engineers and site teams. • Coordinate with Project Head, Engineering, Planning/PMCG, Contracts, Quality, Safety and Commissioning. • Develop strong collaboration with OEMs, EPC contractors, vendors and consultants. • Provide periodic progress, risk and recovery-plan updates to project leadership.
